Blue Sun has added three new ingredient ranges to its portfolio, designed to meet evolving industry needs for sustainability, performance and clean beauty formulations. The lineup includes biodegradable glitter, butter-coated powders and mild, plant-based thickeners. Per the company, these newly introduced ingredients aim to combine innovation and sustainability while meeting the technical demands of high-performance cosmetic applications.

Bioglitter Range for Eco-Friendly Formulas

The Bioglitter range (INCIs: Vary) was created from eucalyptus cellulose, offering a sustainable alternative to microplastic-based glitters. This glitter is fully compliant with EU 2023-2055 microplastic regulations, certified biodegradable by TUV Austria, and reportedly features robust formulation compatibility. It works across a wide range of product types, including water-based, oil-based and alcohol-based systems, as well as nail polishes and soaps. This eco-conscious glitter biodegrades naturally in environmental water systems, ensuring minimal ecological impact, per the company.

The Bioglitter range includes three lines:

  • Bioglitter Pure: Opalescent/iridescent effect glitter having a completely new structure, and like iridescent glitter, does not contain aluminium; available in 13 colors and five sizes
  • Bioglitter Sparkle: Available in 18 colors and six sizes; contains aluminum; comprises metallic effect glitter, reportedly indistinguishable in appearance from traditional metallic effect plastic glitters.
  • Bioglitter Holo: Precision cut, highly reflective, specialized regenerated cellulose film; contains aluminum; creates a striking holographic effect; coated with natural resin; suited for dry, water-based and oil-based applications and complies with the cosmetic regulations of all major regions; currently available in silver only. Note: FDA cosmetic regulations NOT suitable for use on lips (lipstick and lip gloss).

Butterpowder Line for Luxurious Textures

Blue Sun's butter-coated powders are said to be engineered for modern cosmetic formulations with eco-friendly and vegan requirements. The Butterpowder range includes multiple offerings based on seven powders: a mica/kaolin/barium sulfate blend, barium sulfate, kaolin, mica, talc, starch and synthetic mica (INCIs: Vary).

The latest addition is based on the powder blend: Butterpowder Gel (INCI: Kaolin (and) Barium Sulfate (and) Mica (and) Arginine Cocoate (and) Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter (and) Quaternium-90 Bentonite (and) Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil (and) Tocopheryl Acetate). Per the company, the combination of natural butters, soft-touch oils and derived solvents deliver stable, mousse-like textures with a velvet feel and matte finish. Designed for easy mixing in cold processes, it helps to maintain the skin’s hydrolipidic balance without drying. Applications include primers, eyeshadows, liquid-matte lipsticks, foundations and cream blushes. It reportedly offers reliable thixotropic viscosity and pigment suspension across diverse viscosity ranges, with use levels varying from 3-5% in emulsions to 15-80% in color formulations.

Bluecam Plant-derived Thickener Series

Part of the company's Bluecam series, Bluecam DOE-120 (INCI: PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate) is a naturally derived thickener suitable for anionic and amphoteric surfactant systems. Per Blue Sun, it is designed to reduce irritation and is particularly effective for baby care shampoos, scoring zero on eye irritation tests. This plant-based thickener is said to provide a light emollient feel while preserving foaming properties, making it suitable for shampoos, body washes, bar soaps and foaming creams. It also offers excellent sensory properties and enhances surfactant formulations without compromising performance, Blue Sun reports.
