The global natural cosmetics colorants market reached a value of $45 billion in 2023 and is expected to reach $71 billion by 2031, according to a new report from DataM Intelligence. This represents a compound annual growth rate of 5.9% over the forecast period.

“The global natural cosmetics colorants market is expanding due to the rising consumer preference for organic, eco-friendly and non-toxic beauty products,” the report states. “These colorants are used across a variety of cosmetic applications, including skincare, makeup and hair care products. With increasing regulatory support for organic and natural certifications, leading brands are innovating and expanding there offerings to cater to this demand, positioning the market for sustained growth in the coming years.”

The market is segmented by source of the colorant: plant-based, mineral-based, animal-derived and microbial-based. Plant-based colorants hold the majority of the market share due to their sustainability, versatility and safety. These ingredients include plant-based pigments from fruits, flowers and herbs that align with consumer demand for clean beauty products and industry shifts towards sustainable production.

The report notes that the relatively high cost of natural colorants is a significant challenge in the market. These ingredients are often more expensive due to the labor-intensive processes of sourcing, extraction and processing.

North America currently leads the global natural cosmetics colorants market due to strong consumer demand, according to the report. Further, the region’s strict regulatory framework ensures safety and transparency in these products, thus boosting consumer trust. Europe and Asia-Pacific are noted in the report as key markets to watch for growth over the forecast period.
