A combination of UVA and UVB filters, Neo Heliopan Flat (INCI: Homosalate (and) Octocrylene (and) Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (and) Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane (and) Ethylhexyl Salicylate) from Symrise offers broad-spectrum protection against UV radiation while simplifying the development and manufacturing of sunscreens.

The blend enables the manufacturing of sunscreen products such as lotions, creams, sprays and oils with sun protection factors (SPF) from 6 to 50+ without the need for additional UV filters. According to Symrise, this will help cosmetic manufacturers by reducing the number of raw materials in a formula, thus accelerating product development.

The ingredient contains selected UV filters that absorb solar radiation ranging from 300 nm to 360 nm, which provides protection against both UVA and UVB rays. In addition to sun protection, the ingredient is derived sustainably, and given that it is suitable for cold production processes, it saves manufacturers energy for heating, thus contributing to climate protection.

With its liquid consistency, the active is reportedly easy to handle and dispense. It remains stable at temperatures down to -20°C. Furthermore, it can be used in different emulsion manufacturing processes such as hot/hot, hot/cold or cold/cold, and be applied more safely during production than powdered ingredients.

“Manufacturing sunscreen products is considerably easier with Neo Heliopan Flat,” says Simone Peters, senior global product manager for sun protection at Symrise. “Thanks to our solution, cosmetic manufacturers can save time and resources and achieve high effectiveness.”

“We have also been able to combine effectiveness and sustainability in one product,” continues Peters. “At the same time, we are opening up markets with the ingredient. Using a single raw material enables smaller manufacturers in particular to simplify the planning and production of products.”
