Rahn AG has introduced an active compound said to refine the silhouette and fight excessive fat. Slimexir (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Levan (and) Cynara Scolymus (Artichoke) Fruit Extract (Proposed) (and) Decyl Glucoside (and) Phenethyl Alcohol (and) Glucose (and) Caffeine (and) Theobromine (and) Methyl Xanthine (and) Paraxanthine) is said to activate lipolysis, which triggers the fragmentation and decomposition of the existing fat.
Methyl xanthine in the product reportedly prevents the uptake of fat into the adipocytes by reducing their rate of maturation. The combination of methyl xanthine and artichoke extract stimulates cutaneous microcirculation and assists the transport of the broken down fat. Furthermore, levan provides a tightening effect on the skin.
As a result of in vitro studies, the company reported that the active prevents formation of new adipocytes, reduces lipid accumulation in adipocytes and stimulates degradation of existing fat and triggers fragmentation of lipid droplets (postulated mechanism). The company also found through an in vivo study that the active lead to a significant reduction of abdomen volume.
The active compound is recommended at 2–10% in cosmetic formulations designed to refine the silhouette and re-contour the body. It is water-soluble and can be easily incorporated into cosmetic formulations such as gels and emulsions.
