Givaudan Active Beauty is expanding its well-aging portfolio with the launch of Siliphos (INCI: Lecithin (and) Silybum Marianum Extract), a natural alternative to retinoids. Safe for delicate skin, Siliphos is extracted by green fractionation from milk thistle fruits using phytosome technology.

According to the company, Siliphos offers benefits that challenge retinoid efficacy by reducing wrinkles without side effects. It also is said to outperform the plant-based retinol alternative bakuchiol.

The well-aging performance of Siliphos was tested in a clinical study and shown to reduce crow's feet wrinkles by 2x and facial wrinkles by 2.3x, according to Givaudan Active Beauty.

Giada Maramaldi, botanical actives category manager, commented: “Siliphos is the first natural alternative to retinoids and bakuchiol capable of providing well-aging benefits comparable to retinol. Extracted from Silybum marianum Gaertn fruit, it acts directly on collagen production to provide a natural, safe and efficient skin care solution, suitable for even [the] most delicate skin.”
