Miku Cosmetics

According to Google Trends, searches are up 500% for the phrase "Miku Cosmetics." This appears to relate to the Japanese virtual anime vocaloid Hatsune Miku, who although is permanently 16 yrs old, officially celebrated her sixteenth year in September. Talk about anti-aging. Miku is just one of many singing, dancing AI popstars out there, "trying to make it in the real world," per an October 2023 report by BBC.

Interestingly, several years ago, she inspired a real shampoo and conditioner from Unilever's Lux brand, appearing in a commercial during which she let her aqua pigtails down to promote shiny, straight hair. Fairy Tale also launched a line of "Miku in Wonderland"-themed cosmetics, paralleling the famous Alice, complete with a book-shaped eyeshadow, pocket watch blush and small bottle lip gloss.

Cosmetic Bag Golden Apple

Searches in Russian (translated through Google) for "cosmetic bag Golden Apple" rose 350%, week over week. This appears to relate to a Black Friday sale from the Russian retailer Golden Apple. A recent YouTube unboxing revealed quite a selection of interesting products — from LuxVisage 12 hr Brow Super Fix, an organic natural shampoo, casa milk and honey soap, Payot Nue micellar water and several fragrances, to a blueberry honey overnight mask, Frudia collagen moisturizer to hydrate/firm skin, K-beauty brand Orjena's gentle cleanser and a "skin fuel" facial gel mask.

Trixie Cosmetics

Also in the top Google Trends searches, "Trixie Cosmetics" recorded a 200% increase in searches. This likely came up thanks to drag queen, tv star, NY Times best-selling author and comedienne Trixie Mattel, who recently launched her Solid Pink Disco cosmetics collection. The vegan and cruelty-free line includes: a solid pink disco palette, after-dark palette, stick cream, highlighter in "toot, toot" and "beep, beep," life-sized false lashes and lollipop luxe lip gloss.

Power Grip Primer

This week's Exploding Topic is "power grip primer," which is basically a typical makeup primer applied before foundation or other cosmetics to create a smooth, even surface. This is said to ensure that makeup “grips” to the face to extend wear. Per the source, videos about these products have surpassed 161 million views on TikTok.

The brand E.L.F. is partly driving this trend, whose grip primer product reportedly generates $317K monthly on Amazon. Searches on this product grew 1,680% in the last two years. The brand offers two versions of the product, one is the standard primer and the other includes 4% niacinamide to even out and brighten skin tone.

Power Grip Primer + 4% Niacinamide):  Water (Aqua), Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Niacinamide, PEG-150 Distearate, Polysorbate 80, Tocopherol, Hylocereus Undatus Fruit Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, PEG-240/HDI Copolymer bis-Decyltetradeceth-20 Ether, Potassium Laurate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Hydroxyacetophenone, Disodium EDTA, Pentylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol.
