Barbara Jo Morley (nee Greenberg) age 71 of Skokie, IL, passed away on April 26, 2014. An avid member of the cosmetics and personal care industry for some 45+ years, she will be missed. Among her many achievements, former formulator, engineer and lab manager Barbara J. Morley, recently added the Midwest Society of Cosmetic Chemists' (SCC’s) 2013 Stanley Allured Lifetime Service Award to her portfolio.

Cosmetics & Toiletries recently featured an interview with her in January 2014; read more here. In it, she advised new formulators, "Taking the easy way out is boring. Challenge yourself. Also, learn as much as you can, and take in every little thing you come across—a random observation could tie into a current project.. . . Don’t be afraid to look for solutions away from the lab, and tap into all of your knowledge, not just cosmetics, to solve problems."

"I was very surprised and saddened by the news of her passing. She was great fun during this interview and in person," said Rachel Grabenhofer, editor of Cosmetics & Toiletries. "She was always smiling at SCC meetings and liked to have a good time. I also found her surprisingly approachable for being so intelligent. We will definitely miss her."

Morley was the beloved wife of the late John "Chris" Morley, cherished mother of James (Jennifer) Morley, and proud grandmother of Nyla and Declan Morley. She was the sister of Arthur (Marlene) Greenberg, Ilene Kossof and Marlene Baker, and fond Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was also the long time companion of Raphael Kaplan. A celebration of her life was held on April 29th in the Chicago area.
