Skin and mind are connected, and the mind can transmit to skin stressful situations that deteriorate it. AgascalmTM neutralizes the negative effects caused by psychological stress on the skin, such as inflammation and redness.
Reducing the effects on stressed skin
One of the consequences of stress on the skin is that NF-kB transcription factor, involved in a pro-inflammatory reaction, migrates from the cytoplasm to the nucleous of the cells leading to the appearance of cytokines, chemokines and other inflammation-related substances, which damage the skin when expressed continuously over time. Agascalm™ decreases the amount of NF-kB that moves towards the nucleus and, therefore, reduces the effects of the stress on the skin.
AgascalmTM: social and environmental value
Agascalm™ is a natural active ingredient derived from the plant Agastache mexicana, native to Mexico, traditionally used for treating “frightful and shocking situations.”
Provital Group has developed this project with the University of Queretaro (Mexico). The cultivation of the plant is in the Mexican Carbonera region, where several local women work in an organic farming center and plant and cultivate Agastache mexicana.
Agascalm™ is a sustainable active ingredient, respectful of the environment and biodiversity and it creates jobs in the geographical area of cultivation.
The effects of stress on the skin can be summarized:
Caused by an increase in detrimental vasodilatation of skin capillaries
- Vasodilation of skin capillaires.
NF-κB is capable of releasing iNOS, which produces NO, a known powerful vasodilator agent. Continued vasodilation causes redness and extravasation. It also prevents capillaries from contracting and it may be a contributing factor to rosacea.
- Dull skin tone.
During inflammation there is a reduction in collagen reorganization. There is a relationship between light scattering on contact with the skin and the thickness and alignment of collagen fibers, therefore iinflammation produces lower skin radiance.
- Alteration in the skin's barrier function.
When substances released by stress remain active for long periods of time, an increase in keratinocyte proliferation occurs. Epidermal differentiation is impaired and there is a decrease in the density and size of corneodesmosomes. The skin barrier is altered, transepidermal water loss increases and, therefore, dryness, wrinkled and rougher skin and even itchiness appear.
In an in vivo study with a panel of 45 female volunteers , 30 of them suffering psychological stress and 15 of them prone to develop rosacea, Agascalm™ showed very good results:
