Collaboration Develops Natural Rheology Modifier


Global Bioenergies used its sugar-based isobutene to develop Clariant’s new ingredient, which is a rheology modifier impacting formulation viscosity and attaining specific sensorial and texturizing properties for creams and lotions.

The bio-based polymer contains more than 50% renewable carbon and as a result meets the ISO 16128:2016 standard for natural and organic cosmetic ingredients and products.

Additionally, the ingredient proved to not change properties of an application, which offers formulators a direct 1:1 alternative to petroleum-based equivalents.

The collaboration is working toward producing more volumes of Clariant’s new cosmetics ingredient, as it is currently being developed on a small scale at Global Bioenergies’ demo plant in Leuna, Germany.
