Symrise’s SymConcentrole Barrier Boost is a skin care active developed using the company’s SymFrequency Extraction technology.

The ingredient is derived from upcycled pineapple hearts (Ananas sativus) cultivated in Costa Rica, where selected bioactive molecules are extracted using coconut/MCT oil as a natural solvent and carrier. Following extraction, the oil-based material undergoes a controlled ripening phase and a precise clarification process to enhance purity and stability.

The resulting ingredient is standardized in triterpenoids, compounds recognized for their role in supporting skin barrier function and resilience.

The sourcing approach reflects a circular use of agricultural by-products, while Symrise also notes that regulatory frameworks governing genetic resources and benefit-sharing—particularly in countries such as Brazil, where the species is native—may require compliance assessment depending on intended use.
