DSM-Firmenich has launched its patent-pending Bond Aid with OXY 229 CB, a next-generation hair care ingredient powered by a unique biotech-derived peptide complex. The ingredient reportedly visibly restores hair’s structural integrity and vitality.
Hair Wellness Fueled by Biotechnology
According to the company, Bond Aid with OXY 229 CB (INCI: Water (Aqua) (and) Glycerin (and) Caprylyl Glycol (and) 1,2-Hexanediol (and) Saccharomyces Lysate (and) Valine (and) Threonine (and) Glutamic Acid (and) Glycine (and) Disodium Succinate), combines three key functions:
- Keratin binding: Strengthening the hair fiber from the inside out,
- Biotechnology: Using sustainable, yeast-derived peptides for conscious formulation, and
- Scalp oxygenation: Promoting scalp vitality and a healthy environment for hair growth.
Designed for easy integration into both leave-on and rinse-off products, Bond Aid with OXY 229 CB is highly effective at a low 1% concentration, per the company.
Clinically Tested Performance
The OXY 229 CB complex contains more than 700 peptides. Molecular modeling of a subset of 19 of these peptides revealed the ingredient's novel ability to bind with keratin, targeting the interior of hair fibers and enabling multi-dimensional structural repair, the company reports.
Key performance data demonstrated:
- Up to 22% improvement in hair tensile strength after a single use at 1%,
- A 22% increase in combability, indicating enhanced smoothness,
- A 750% increase in scalp oxygen uptake in vitro, and
- A 10% boost in cell viability in vitro, supporting a healthier scalp.
Sustainable, Natural and Eco Friendly
In line with clean beauty principles, Bond Aid with OXY 229 CB is derived from a natural and sustainable yeast extract. The ingredient is 98.17% of natural origin (ISO 16128), readily biodegradable (OECD test), halal-certified and produced without palm-oil derivatives, the company reports.
In addition, DSM-Firmenich maintains full supply-chain control and has calculated a low carbon and water footprint, aligning the product with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
The ingredient is positioned as a modern, eco-conscious approach to hair repair, delivering visible results from the first application.
Meeting Demand for High-performance Repair
Bond Aid with OXY 229 CB is said to address the growing consumer demand for high-performance solutions to combat hair damage from heat styling, chemical treatments, UV exposure and environmental pollutants.
"Hair is under constant attack from everything your body is exposed to — sun, pollution, diet, sleep and stress," explains Fabrice Guillemard, director of marketing for beauty and care at DSM-Firmenich.
"With Bond Aid, we’re addressing hair repair in a more holistic, science-backed way — leveraging biotechnology and peptide innovation to meet real-world consumer needs."
