Alicia Keys and Keys Soulcare

Google Trends reports searches are up 1,350% on "Alicia Keys" and "Alicia Keys makeup/no makeup," probably thanks to the music artist's recent cameo with headlining music artist Usher during the Feb. 11, 2024, Superbowl (American football) halftime show, where Keys sported minimal makeup and glowing skin, reminding us of the "power of minimal makeup," per Essence.

Sources report she stopped wearing makeup in 2016 since she felt "addicted" to it, being uncomfortable leaving the house without it. She returned to wearing it in 2020 and launched her own Keys Soulcare brand — three products of which were featured in her Superbowl look: illuminating serum, sheer flush cheek tint and tinted balm. The brand is currently featuring two new products: a deeply replenishing squalane facial oil and "It's Like Skin" 2-in-1 concealer tint.

No Rules Makeup Stick

"No Rules Makeup Stick" has experienced a surge in searches of more than 1,150%, per Google Trends. Created by the European brand 3ina, whose focus is diversity and inclusion, the product is a three-in-one cheeks, lips and eye makeup that can create a simple monochromatic look. As previously reported, Allure projected this trend in its top 8 makeup looks for 2024. The stick is provided in a soft touch package. The creamy formula is vegan, cruelty free and features hyaluronic acid spheres for skin benefits.

Ingredients: The No-rules Stick 244: Hydrogenated Polydecene, Octyldodecanol, Mica, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyethylene, Cera Microcristallina (Microcrystalline Wax), Silica, CI 19140 (Yellow 5 Lake), Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, CI 15850 (Red 7 Lake), Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Aqua (Water), Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Butylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hexylene Glycol.

Pamela Anderson No Makeup and Sonsie

Pamela Anderson has made our top five list again. Searches on "Pamela Anderson no makeup" are up 950% in the last week, per Google Trends, likely due (in part) to a recent USA Today story profiling her and her decision to drop makeup. She has more recently shifted to a focus on healthy skin, launching her skin care brand Sonsie Skin. According to Anderson, her opting out of makeup is no a publicity stunt, but rather about women being themselves and authentic. Her brand is positioned as connecting a healthy appearance with inner well-being - aligning nicely with the psychodermatology topic we've seen emerge in recent years.

Glycolipid Cream Cleanser and The Ordinary

Exploding Topics reports a surge in interest in "glycolipid cream cleanser," which the source defines as glycolipid-containing products that help to aid in skin's moisture retention and protect the barrier to improve its health. Interest in this category has been boosted by searches on The Ordinary brand's glycolipid cream cleanser, which have risen on TikTok by 300% in the past two years.

According to the source, lotions are predicted to see a 14.8% CAGR in the next four years as part of a larger "special lotions" metatrend, which includes products such as glycolic acid lotion for dark spots and lines, ceramide lotion for barrier protection and peptide lotion for collagen production and skin elasticity.

Ingredients: The Ordinary Glycolipid Cream Cleanser: Aqua (Water), Behenyl Alcohol, Polyglyceryl-2 Stearate, Glycolipids, Pentylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl-6 Dicaprate, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearyl Alcohol, Diutan Gum, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Sodium Phytate, Phytic Acid, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Sodium Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

#Bixyplastia or 'Hair Plastic Surgery'

Finally, Spate's hashtag tracker reports TikTok views on #bixyplastia are up more than 22,300%, week over week. In searching this term, we learned it can be considered a modified version of keratin straightening, where Botox meets keratin. The treatment is said to "simultaneously straighten and restore hair on a cellular level" — echoing the skinification of hair. The products feature cysteine, which is said to "open" hair so nutrients from other ingredients can enter the hair. One source referred to it as "hair plastic surgery."
