The Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MOCRA) goes in to effect on Dec. 29, 2023, giving the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) increased authority over cosmetics. The aim is to ensure the safety and health of consumers and cosmetics industry workers.

For months now, legal experts have been translating and outlining the necessary steps for industry to take in preparation for MOCRA's implementation. These range from creating an adverse event reporting system, and maintaining current and complete safety substantiation records, to ensuring facilities are registered with the FDA and more; see our full checklist, here.
