Gentle Preservative System Launched

During the New York SCC Suppliers' Day this week, at booth 1551, schülke inc. launches euxyl K 900 (INCI: Benzyl Alcohol (and) Ethylhexylglycerin (and) Tocopherol), a multifunctional preservative system. The system incorporates ethylhexylglycerin to impact the interfacial tension at the cell membranes of micro-organisms, thus improving the activity of the benzyl alcohol. This technology has a broad, balanced spectrum of efficacy against bacteria, yeasts and mold fungi. It also includes a preservative booster to increase the microbiological stability of formulations.

Challenge tests performed on various cosmetic formulas showed euxyl K 900 to be an effective antimicrobial stabilizer at levels of 0.5-1.1%. Additionally, it supported deodorant activity, as it inhibited the growth and multiplication of odor-causing bacteria. This is the latest addition to the company’s existing gentle preservation systems, also including euxyl PE 9010 and sensiva PA 20, all of which share the same preservative-boosting ingredient.

Formulas containing natural raw materials have a higher risk for microbial contamination but according to schülke, microorganisms introduced via this pathway are quickly eliminated by euxyl K 900. This ingredient combines gentle synthetic components to enhance the efficiency and efficacy of non-traditional preservation systems. It is designed to be a versatile, cost-effective preservation solution for leave-on, wet wipe and sensitive formulas.
