Symrise will be launching a soothing active ingredient for sensitive skin at In-Cosmetics in Paris. SymSitive 1609 (INCI: Not Provided) minimizes hypersensitivity reactions and the peripheral nervous system while targeting certain receptors in the skin.
Before creating the ingredient, Symrise identified two key factors involved in the physiological mechanism behind sensitive skin: increased permeability of the stratum corneum (the upper layer of the skin) and hyper reactivity of the peripheral nervous system. These both heighten the skin’s response to external factors, according to the company.
The active reportedly acts as a sensitivity regulator by increasing the skin’s tolerance threshold. The company applied the active in a clinical study on 20 subjects to report a reduced burning and stinging reaction. Capsaicin-induced stinging and burning was lowered below the sensory threshold immediately with use of the active.
