20 Hand Sanitizers Recalled by Health Canada

Ingredient violations, unauthorized sale and mislabeling are among the reasons cited by Health Canada for its latest 18 hand sanitizer recalls, according to a report by CTV News.

The same source notes these are in addition to nearly 100 previous recalls since the beginning of the pandemic. Health Canada flagged the 18 products in a recall alert directing consumers to stop using the below products for the reasons cited. 

  • Aerochem Liquid Hand Cleaner 70% Alcohol: Not authorized for sale in Canada; contains unacceptable ingredient ethyl acetate
  • Bio-Odeur: Not authorized for sale in Canada
  • Defenz: Not properly labeled (missing correct NPN, lot number, directions for use and risk statements)
  • Gigi's Goodbye Germs Hand Sanitizer (two listings): One for not being authorized for sale in Canada and insufficient quality oversight of the product; the other for not being authorized for sale in Canada, sold without proper testing and containing undeclared impurity acetaldehyde at elevated levels
  • JP Wiser's Distillery: Contains unacceptable ingredient ethyl acetate
  • KeraSpa: Contains unacceptable ingredient ethyl acetate
  • Natural Concepts Sanitizing Gel (two listings): Both for containing undeclared impurity acetaldehyde at elevated levels
  • Peak Processing Solutions - Ethanol sanitizer 80%: Containing undeclared impurity acetaldehyde at elevated levels
  • Preference Pre-Quat Sanitizer: Not authorized for sale in Canada
  • Premium Hand Gel Sanitizer (two listings): Both contains unacceptable ingredient ethyl acetate
  • Puricia: Contains undeclared impurities benzene and methanol at elevated levels
  • Safe-Guard Product Canada Hand Sanitizer: Not authorized for sale in Canada; contains unacceptable ingredient methanol
  • Salon Solution Waterless Hand Wash: Not authorized for sale in Canada; missing risk statements; product not authorized to contain technical-grade ethanol
  • SunnaPure Hand Sanitizer Spray: Missing risk statements; product not authorized to contain technical-grade ethanol
  • T-1000: Missing risk statements; product not authorized to contain technical-grade ethanol
  • TerraPure Hand Sanitizer: Contains undeclared impurity benzene at elevated levels
  • Umbrell (60 mL format): Contains unacceptable ingredient ethyl acetate
