Innovation Abounds at in-cosmetics Asia 2012

The leading pan-Asian personal care ingredient event–in-cosmetics Asia–will make a welcome return to BITEC, Bangkok, from Nov. 6-8, 2012.

Presenting its largest show to date, it will provide an authoritative voice on Asia's ever-growing market and host the most extensive Workshop Program in the event’s history.

The insightful workshops will sit at the heart of the show. Designed and led by industry experts, they will enhance the commercial and scientific knowledge of visitors across specific topics of interest within the Asian market.

The event will hold the Regulations Workshop on the latest regulations introduced across the EU and Asia. With no central regulatory body currently in Asia, industry players face the constant struggle of keeping up with the latest changes. This workshop will help guide people through the most recent regulatory developments and demonstrate how the industry will be affected.

Also on the agenda is the Haircare Workshop, which will focus on hair physiology, styling, coloring, conditioning and hair care sensory evaluation with presentation by experts from L’Oréal, P&G and more.

Two formulation workshops led by Luigi Rigano, PhD, will offer visitors the chance to enhance their skills and obtain up-to-date information on the latest innovations.

The Basic Formulation Workshop will discuss the key steps of formulation strategy in the development of a new product. The workshop will offer a number of key visitor benefits, including a cosmetic introduction covering functions, ingredient categories and ingredients selection–along with the opportunity to learn about the strategy to obtain a formula with schematic guidelines.

The Advanced Formulation Workshop will take discussions up a level. Attendees will be presented with multiple formulation options and associated hurdles and follow procedural steps on how to become a self-styled cosmetic formula designer. The workshop will conclude with on-the-spot evaluation discussions and a conversation on the sensory approach between the formulator, marketing team and the consumer.

With the latest research by Kline revealing that Asia is the world’s largest market for natural personal care products, the Interactive Natural and Organic Workshop, half-day workshop held by Barbara Olioso, PhD, of Organatural Cosmetic Developments will take place. During this hands-on workshop, attendees will create a natural product, while discussing the issues and challenges encountered along the way.

The return of its unique Innovation Zone will showcase cutting-edge products launched either at the show or up to six months before the event. The area will, for the first time, feature a formulations section, where a few select exhibitors will have products on display to share their formulation sample with visitors. This has been introduced to address the huge demand from both formulators and chemists to enhance their knowledge of formulations. Mintel Beauty and Personal Care will demonstrate handpicked finished products across skin care, hair care and color cosmetics.

This year brings not one, but two industry-leading awards–with the in-cosmetics Asia Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Award 2012, as well a new partnership with the Cosmetics & Toiletries R&D Awards 2012. The new award will crown two winners for the Best New Ingredient and Most Creative Application.

“This is the biggest show in our five-year history, with up to 300 exhibitors set to take their place. This is the must-attend event for anyone involved in the personal care industry in Asia and we’re looking forward to opening the doors to encourage innovation, education and the sharing of knowledge across the region,” said Sarah Gibson, exhibition director at in-cosmetics Asia.

The Marketing Trends program offers an extensive series of seminars on the latest developments from within the industry. The presentations are tailored to the personal care market and deliver key facts, figures and case studies. These include: Anti-aging, Whitening, BB Creams: Beauty Trends & Innovation Move Across the World by Mintel; Trends in the Thai Cosmetic Market by Ketmanee Lertkitcha (TCMA); How to Translate Future Trends into Innovation by Antoinette Van den Berg (Future Touch) and Focus On The French Cosmetic Market by Juliette Mélédié (FEBEA).

Recent analysis on nanotechnology has shown that R&D activity in personal care items has grown more than 100% in past years. As the world’s population strives to improve their physical appearance, innovation within the sector will inevitably continue to grow. A series of 24 Innovation Seminars will focus on the latest ingredients and formulation techniques to enter the industry including: The Fast Way to Get Rid of Wrinkles by Rahn; DermCom–An Activator of Epidermal–Dermal Communication for Deep Skin Rejuvenation by Mibelle; and Improved Hair Conditioning Performance through Cationic Polymer Synergies by Lubrizol.

Visitors who register before Oct. 29, 2012, will gain fast-track entry to the show and 30% discount off all workshops.
