The beauty industry has long looked to new horizons for solutions and today, sustainability is at the forefront. From repurposing food by-products as high-value actives, to embracing natural, science-driven solutions, beauty is evolving in exciting and meaningful ways.

This issue celebrates the intersection of sustainability, innovation and holistic beauty. Nita Sharma Das highlights how food by-products are being transformed into sustainable, high-value cosmetic actives, while our collective interview gathers industry leaders to discuss renewable materials and emerging technologies shaping the future of beauty.

What’s more, Kanlayavattanakul and Lourith reveal the anti-aging potential of food phenolics, also upcycled from food waste, while our Biotech in Beauty column by Koestline and delves into zero-waste cosmetics; not to mention the Expert Opinions on zero-waste and sustainable cosmetics.

Meanwhile, on the holistic beauty forefront, Cico et al. explore the stress-relieving benefits of a Lactobacillus postbiotic to improve emotional resilience and enhance skin health. And another interview with industry leaders looks at hybrid makeup for holistic care + color benefits.

This spirit of exploration resonates deeply with me as I, too, embark on a new journey. After nearly 25 incredible years with Cosmetics & Toiletries (C&T), I’m stepping into a new chapter, leaving beauty to explore the biosciences and pharma industries. Just as beauty has found innovation in unexpected places, I’m following my passion for science into new and exciting fields.

I’m also thrilled to announce Emily Little joins C&T as the new managing editor, forging her own path into beauty from the flavor and fragrance world at Perfumer & Flavorist. Her expertise offers a fresh perspective and I know she’ll bring creativity, passion and a unique vision to this role.

Thank you for 25 amazing years. I’ll see you on LinkedIn — and perhaps along new, unexpected horizons.
