Cognis GmbH has patented an invention relating to esters of 2-propylheptanoic acid and their use in cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical preparations. The compounds reportedly are characterized by a particularly lightweight sensation. The described preparations, according to the invention, are reportedly suitable to be incorporated in all cosmetic compositions for body care and body cleaning, such as body oil, baby oil, body milk, creams, lotions, sprayable emulsions, sunscreen compositions, antiperspirants, liquid and bar soaps, etc. They can also be used in surfactant-containing formulations such as foam and shower baths, hair shampoos and care rinses.

Disclosed in this patent is a composition for external use comprising 2-O-(β-D-glucopyranosyl) ascorbic acid or a salt or ester thereof that is safe to the human body and a koji mold or a processed koji. The composition exhibits excellent skin permeability and contains a stable ascorbic acid derivative that is utilized persistently in the living body, possesses strong antioxidant activity, and has little skin irritation. Compositions employing the invention include: lotions, milky lotions, makeup, hair cosmetics, cleaning cosmetics, lip cosmetics, oral cavity cosmetics, nail cosmetics, eyeliner cosmetics, bath cosmetics and sunburn/sunscreen cosmetics. The composition is also used in medicaments or quasi-drugs, and examples of them include medicated cosmetics, and hair restorers in addition to eye drops for dry eyes.
