Dietary Supplement Shuts Down Stress to Ensure Sleep
Posted: April 14, 2006
Next Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NPI) highlighted its Seditol product, a new dietary supplement blend of ingredients that claims to help “turn off” stress to achieve a good night's sleep. The ingredient is a patented blend including extract from Magnolia officinalis and Ziziphus spinosa. According to the U.S. Government Health and Human Services Office of Women's Health, about 60 million Americans each year suffer from insomnia, which can lead to serious sleep deficits and problems. Insomnia tends to increase with age and affects about 40 percent of women and 30 percent of men.
According to the company, recent studies at the Sleep Research and Treatment Center, Department of Psychiatry, Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, demonstrated that the leading cause of sleeplessness in otherwise healthy adults is an overactive central nervous system with associated elevation of stress hormones. The scientists concluded that the therapeutic goal in sleeplessness is to decrease the level of physical and emotional arousal, and not just improve nighttime sleep. This new product reportedly was developed to address the need to decrease nighttime physical and emotional arousal while providing a feeling of relaxation and less worry.
