New York Proposes Expiration Dates on Sunscreens

New York state may require that sunscreen labels include expiration dates. A bill co-sponsored by Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg (D) and state Sen. Charles Fuschillo (R) has gone to the State Senate. Reportedly, senators expect that the bill will pass, at which time it will go to Gov. Eliot Spitzer. If Spitzer approves the bill, it will become a law in the state of New York as of Jan. 1, 2008.

If the bill is passed, all product labels on sunscreen products sold in New York will have to have an expiration date and storage recommendations. Some companies already include expiration dates on their labels. Sunscreens are said to expire within 2-3 years of being manufactured.
