HallStar Bestows Award for SPF Retention

Stacy Mundschau et al., of the Kimberly-Clark Corp., was named the recipient of the first HallStar Society of Cosmetic Chemists Award, which was announced at the SCC Annual Meeting, held at the New York on Dec. 10, 2009.

Sponsored by The HallStar Company, the annual award recognizes the author(s) of the scientific paper presented at the SCC’s Annual Scientific Seminar that makes the greatest contribution to knowledge in the field of protecting against or ameliorating damage to human skin caused by exposure to UV radiation. Winners are selected from papers presented at the SCC Annual National Seminar in June.

Mundschau’s winning paper, “SPF Retention via Silicone Derivatives,” discussed dimethicone copolyol’s solubility in ethanol, which enables formation of a water-resistant film that can retain 100% SPF.
