Liquid Cosmetic Esters using Propoxylation Technology

A great deal of work has been done in recent years to prepare liquid esters that provide benefits in hair and skin. One very important benefit of such a product, depending upon the exact structure, is moisturization. The mechanism of moisturization is generally based upon the deposition of an oil on the skin to act as a barrier to transepidermal water loss. In this case, liquid esters are of interest because they can easily form a thin oily film on the skin. Solid esters, based upon wax technology, can be difficult to incorporate into formulations and often do not have a desirable skin feel.
