Botanically Derived Emollient Base for Youthful Hydration
Posted: October 3, 2012
Floratech has introduced a botanically derived emollient base that delivers the human skin lipid profile of a healthy 22-year-old. L22 (INCI: Jojoba Oil / Macadamia Seed Oil Esters (and) Squalene (and) Phytosteryl Macadamiate (and) Phytosterols (and) Tocopherol) hydrates the skin better than other common emollients.
The company conducted a clinical study of the emollient at 3% compared to olive oil and caprylic/capric triglyeride all incorporated into different test lotions and applied on a panel of 12 healthy women ranging from 36 to 59 with dry lower legs. The duration of the study was 4 hr with one application of the test article and corneometer measurements conducted under controlled temperature and humidity conditions. This study was double-blind and randomized. Skin hydration was determined by measuring capacitance with a corneometer hourly for four hours post one application of the test article on the outer aspect of the lower leg. The formulation containing 3% of the emollient hydrated the skin 30% better, compared to a 15% for the olive oil formulation and 10% for the caprylic/capric triglyceride formulation.
