S/W Dispersion for Skin Feel in Natural Products
Posted: January 26, 2010
Grant Industries Inc. has developed a material to improve the skin feel of formulations while allowing for a natural claim. Gransil SiW GVL (INCI: Vegetable Alkanes (and) Polysilicone-11 (and) Water (aqua) (and) Butylene Glycol (and) Polysorbate-20 (and) Decyl Glucoside) is a s/w dispersion of vegetable alkanes and polysilicone-11 that can be added to the aqueous phase of water-containing formulations.
The dispersion is said to improve skin feel during payout by rapidly transitioning from a water break to a smooth silicone feel. In addition, it visually enhances the skin by providing a matte, soft focus appearance and is capable of absorbing excess facial oils for optimum oil control. Formulators can use the dispersion to create elegant textures with a silky feel and natural claim. The company recommends the dispersion for color cosmetics, creams, lotions, sun care and other personal care applications. In addition, the micro-dispersions are cold process compatible.
The Gransil SiW GVL product is part of the company's line of SiW micro-dispersions, which was created to allow the formulator to incorporate silicone gels and powders into difficult formulating environments such as highly volatile delivery solvents and mixed polar phases. According to the company, the avoidance of traditional emulsifiers minimizes the need for surfactants that mask the activity or feel of preservatives or other functional materials.
