Reducing Redness and Razor Burn in Shaving Applications
By: TRI-K Industries, Inc.
Posted: May 29, 2012
Internal research at TRI-K Industries has enabled the identification of a unique botanical isolate, Hordeum Vulgare Seed Isolate, which has been shown to reduce redness and razor burn in shaving applications. Throughout recent history, the most common methodology to remove hair for men and women has been through the act of shaving. However, the action of removing surface hair and stratum corneum perpetuates nicks on the skin, stimulates inflammation and disrupts the lipid barrier, which contributes to moisture loss. Shaving also produces a rough beveled edge and often creates pseudofolliculitis barbae (ingrown hairs). Thus, TRI-K Industries has developed TRIglyphix™ Sense to help reduce the discomfort associated with the act of shaving and avoid unnecessary irritation. Clinical trials, in vitro analysis and genomic research support these findings.
Genomic Research and In vitro Analysis
DNA microarrays performed on human epidermal keratinocytes and dermal fibroblast cultures suggest TRIglyphix™ Sense reduces inflammatory mechanisms while improving the activity of genes involved in barrier function, stress response and repair mechanisms. In vitro studies were performed on fibroblasts (HFF-1 cell line) to measure changes in the extracellular matrix (ECM) and showed increases in collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, while reducing the expression of Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP-1). MMP-1 is the degradative enzyme responsible for breaking down collagen. Effects were measured after 72 hr of treatment.
Clinical Trials
Clinical findings indicate TRIglyphix™ Sense works to diminish signs of redness and razor burn in a dose dependent fashion, as shown by clinical trials (see image A, image B and image C). Photogrammetrix ratings indicate a 90% improvement in razor burn/redness upon use of 5% TRIglyphix™ Sense over 7 days. In addition, photogrammetrix ratings report a strong improvement of 45% in as early as three days.
Benefits
In addition, TRIglyphix™ Sense coincides with the desire for using natural and botanically derived ingredients. TRIglyphix™ Sense also comes from sustainable and renewable resources. This active is readily soluble in water and great for use in any shave/after-shave formulations.
Conclusion
These results show that including TRIglyphix™ Sense in any shave/after shave formulation will enhance the overall shaving experience while reducing redness and razor burn. TRIglyphix™ Sense can be used with a multitude of ingredients to create numerous combinations of finished products. Use TRIglyphix™ Sense for visible results within three days and stop the burn.
