Cosmetics & Toiletries R&D Awards

The Cosmetics &Toiletries R&D Awards program recognized the ingenuity and science of the raw materials behind finished cosmetics and personal care products.

Nominations were reviewed by an esteemed panel of international experts, who selected the finalists and, from there, the winner. Each entry was judged for its significance to the industry as well as for its long-term impact.

Eligible entries included raw materials or technologies, and were open to companies around the world. The finalists and winner had been presented during the awards ceremony held at in-cosmetics and in-cosmetics Asia and were profiled by Cosmetics & Toiletries. Though C&T no longer presents its own awards, C&T is involved in the judging selection and process in collaboration and support of in-cosmetics.

The winner for Best New Ingredient was Silab, for its Volunage facial remodeling active. The ingredient contains oligosaccharides from Paeonia albiflora (peony) root, a medicinal plant used in traditional Chinese medicine, which acts via the communication between the reticular dermis and hypodermis. The ingredient prevents deleterious exchanges between the two to preserve the functioning of adipocytes. It also counteracts the loss of structure and corrects skin slackening; as skin is re-densified, the volume of the face is increased and its oval shape is restored.
