This article reviews some of the important methodologies and techniques published during the past ten years on the subject of cosmetics and toiletries. More than 50% of the published methodologies dealt with measuring skin condition--its moisture, wrinkles, damage, irritation, sensitization and other factors. A great deal of literature dealt with the use of in vitro testing to establish safety. About 10% of the articles covered in vitro eye irritation tests and about 10% decribed techniques for testing hair.
