In one aspect, the invention features compositions containing an agent that decreases the expression, activity or level of VEGF-A or VEGFR. In a preferred embodiment, the composition is applied in a cosmetic composition for topical administration.

Method and compositions are provided in this invention for treating or preventing a skin pathology or disorder associated with diabetes and/or aging. Topical administration of at least one agent capable of restoring an impaired physiological condition of the skin is described, such as PKC modulating agents, various adipokines and insulin signaling-related molecules. In particular, the inventors noted the restoration of subcutaneous adipose tissue can overcome many diabetic skin pathologies and aging skin disorders and conditions.
