CTFA Looks Closer at Preservative Testing

The Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association's (CTFA) Microbiology Committee met on September 12 in Philadelphia to discuss a new method for testing preservative performance in atypical (non-aqueous) cosmetics products, a rapid method for preservative performance testing, according to the association, and a guideline for testing preservative efficacy in non-woven substrate products (wipes).

The regulation of preservatives in Europe was also discussed at the meeting in addition to the progress on the development of cosmetic microbiology standards by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and efforts of the Antimicrobial Coalition to conduct studies to support the benefit of antimicrobial handwashing products in reducing infections.

The CTFA will host a Microbiology Seminar on October 25  in New Jersey entitled "Resolving Microbiological Issues in Manufacturing."
