Natural Clay Exfoliator

Laboratoires Sérobiologiques, a business of Cognis Care Chemicals, has launched an exfoliator based on natural clay that can be used in a wide range of cosmetic formulations. Marajo Scrub LS 9843 (INCI: Kaolin) is a micro-exfoliator that reportedly gently softens the skin and restores its balance and radiance.

The exfoliator is made from a pure natural clay from the Marajo Island, an Amazon region of North Brazil and the biggest fluvial island in the world. Kaolin reportedly is rich in mineral salts such as iron, aluminum, potassium, calcium, boron and sulfur, which are said to revitalize and smooth the skin.

The raw material conforms to the Ecocert standard for ecological and organic cosmetics. The exfoliator is suitable for face and body scrubs, purifying treatments for problem skin, scalp exfoliating treatments for dandruff-prone hair, and bar and liquid soap formulations.

The company conducted one-time uses of a hydrogel containing 3% of the material and reported significantly improved radiance on 70% of subjects’ skin. One hour after application, the skin was noted as silkier, the complexion was less dull and more uniform, and pores had shrunk in size.
