Micellar Solution to Purify, Strengthen Skin

Laboratoires Sérobiologiques, the active ingredients business of Cognis Care Chemicals, has introduced a micellar solution that purifies skin while moisturizing and strengthening the skin barrier. Sphingosomes Moist LS 9871 (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Sodium Lactate (and) Sodium PCA (and) Mannitol (and) Lecithin (and) Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate) is a no-rinse cleanser that brings cleansing performance to mild formulations and helps to restore the skin’s protective barrier.

As is well-known, the skin is an individual's most effective defense against environmental influences such as impurities or stress. According to the company, as busy schedules leave less time for daily personal care routines, consumers are looking for more effective cleansing products. However, many effective cleansing products can irritate dry and sensitive skin.

This no-rinse cleanser is said to offer formulators with a skin purifier of optimal cleansing efficacy that also respects the balance and tolerance of skin. This solution is designed to meet the demand for milder cleansing products since it develops micelles–submicroscopic aggregations of molecules–of mild, nonionic, biocompatible solubilizers or surfactants that can micro-emulsify dirt and makeup. Since it does not contain aggressive surfactants, which can dry out the skin, the material thus does not adversely affect skin hydration or lipid levels.

In addition to cleansing, the micellar solution contains biomimetic, lipophilic and hydrophilic active ingredients that are similar to naturally occurring substances in the skin to keep it moisturized. And since it contains two low-weight, hydro-retaining molecule types, together with natural phospholipids analogous to epidermic lipids, this cleansing solution offers the functionality of oil with the freshness of water. As a result, products containing the solution reportedly ensure skin tolerance while combining caring properties and cleansing efficacy of an emulsion in a lightweight, clear formulation.

The company recommends the micellar solution at 5–10% in: clear formulations; makeup removers for dry and sensitive skin; no-rinse, transparent, mild micellar cleansers/waters; hydrating skin serums and toners; and moisturizing facial sprays for use during travel and in harsh environments.
