Wine is more frequently being used in antiaging and whitening products, according to market research from Mintel's Global New Products Database (GNPD) and Cosmetic Research.
A few of the entries into the skin care segment are those that contain ingredients sourced from the Mondavi and Chateau d’Yquem vineyards. Several other new products are formulated with wine polyphenols essence to fight against damage from free radicals. Polyphenols are one of the strongest known antioxidants, rumored to outperform vitamins C and E.
Dior has teamed up with Chateau d’Yquem for L’Or de Vie L’Extrait and La Crème. The vines of Chateau d’Yquem were a source of interest to the scientists at Dior because of their ability to regenerate and improve year after year. The vines were incorporated into the L’Or de Vie products because studies showed the antioxidants helped to regenerate aging skin.
Robert Mondavi, a well-known California winery, recently joined the personal care market. Davi Skin includes a female and male line of skin care products that are said to capture the essence of the Mondavi vineyard. Introduced in the United States, the line includes Le Grand Cru, one of the most recommended products, which is formulated with the polyphenols from both grape leaf and fermented grape extracts. Also, the Le Grand Cru for men is a blend of fermented wine extracts and green tea, raspberry, blackcurrant, bilberry, rosemary and olive leaf extracts.
Zanmei Cosmetics Jeanswest 2-in-1 Invisible Mask & Cream is now available in China. This whitening product contains red wine polyphenols and claims, with regular use, to leave skin light, smooth and younger-looking. Pro-Ya Cosmetics also has launched a whitening product in China, Pro-Ya Red Wine White I Special Protecting Milk, a whitening product that contains vitamins C and E, along with red wine polyphenols. Additionally, Guangzhou Meizhiao Cosmetics Co. launched Skin Healthy Red Wine Polyphenol Whitening and Moisturizing Facial Mask, which claims to both whiten and delay the aging process.
