Extract for Collagen Production and Protection

BASF Beauty Care Solutions France S.A.S. aims to protect collagen to prevent aging with its latest active launch. CollGuard (INCI: Not Provided) is an extract of Davilla rugosa leaves that protects the skin’s collagen to maintain epidermal structure.

According to the company, the effectiveness of collagen is based on its functionality and its protection against glycation, oxidation and collagenase. The active was not only found to increase functional type 1 collagen synthesis threefold, but was also found to preserve newly synthesized collagen and support the structure of the fibrillar network.

In vitro studies showed the extract’s anti-glycation activity, helping to preserve the structure and functionality of collagen fibers. In addition, it exhibited protection against free radical attacks and against collagenase at a 2%.
