Apothederm has launched Stretch Mark Cream, its solution to stretch marks that is formulated with heptapeptide-7 to boost collagen and support tissue. The cream is said to reinforce the skin’s support structures and help visibly repair existing stretch marks.
Heptapeptide-7 is said to contain seven amino acids that are commonly found in the skin. This peptide sequence is modeled on natural sequences found as part of the body’s own defense and repair system. After boosting collagen, the peptide reportedly breaks down into the amino acids that are already present in the body.
In addition to the peptide, the cream also contains four natural emollients: shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil and meadowfoam seed oil. Shea butter reportedly corrects dehydration and dryness while protecting the skin’s natural moisture balance. Meadowfoam seed oil is said to form a moisture barrier and help prevent moisture loss. It also contains naturally occurring antioxidant tocopherols. Both olive oil and cocoa seed butter are said to soften and moisturize the skin. The formulation incorporates sodium hyaluronate to serve as a humectant and draw moisture into skin and maintain a moisture balance.
To reduce discoloration, the formula includes licorice root extract and pichia/resveratrol ferment extract. The licorice is also said to serve an anti-irritant function.
