Men's Skin Care Formulating Concepts

In its latest product positioning, DSM has developed a line of formulation concepts for men, including skin care, aftershave balm, a sebum fighter, wrinkle repair and sun and eye care. According to the company, this line of starter formulas leverages several products from the company's portfolio with one another to offer formulators a combined and complete approach to this market segment. The company also featured this new combinatorial approach at In-Cosmetics in Paris.

The Refreshing Energy Kick formula is designed with the company's Oxy BT-229 (INCI: Saccharomyces Lysate) to activate and reactivate tissue generation through cell respiration. In addition, Stay-C 50 (INCI:  Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate) is added to reduce free radical damage in and provide vitamins to the skin. Finally, Alpaflor Scutellaria AO (INCI: Glycerin (and) Water (aqua) (and) Scutellaria Alpina Flower/Leaf Extract (and) Sodium Benzoate (and) Potassium Sorbate) is included to stimulate beta-endorphin release, thus reportedly helping skin to relax.

The Refuel After Shave Balm includes Iricalmin (INCI: Triticum Vulgare Germ Extract (and) Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Extract (and) Sodium Hyaluronate), which the company reports supports the restoration of the lipid barrier and soothes skin. Alpaflor Imperatoria AO (INCI: Glycerin (and) Water (aqua) (and) Peucedanum Ostruthium Leaf Extract (and) Sodium Benzoate (and) Potassium Sorbate) and allantoin are also added for their wound-healing properties, while vitamin E assists in reducing inflammation and softens the skin.

To treat sebum production, the Sebum Fighter formula incorporates Regu-Seb (INCI: Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil (and) Serenoa Serrulata Fruit Extract (and) Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Extract) to regulate sebum production as well as Alpaflor Hyssopus AO (INCI: Glycerin (and) Water (aqua) (and) Hyssopus Officinalis Extract (and) Sodium Benzoate (and) Potassium Sorbate), which is said to have antibacterial and antiseptic properties.

The Wrinkle Rebel formula features Pepha-Tight (INCI: Algae Extract (and) Pullulan) to tighten the skin immediately while also acting long-term by strengthening the skin's connective tissue. The company's Syn-Ake (INCI: Glycerin (and) Water (aqua) (and) Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate) ingredient is added to reduce mimic wrinkles by inhibiting muscle contractions. Finally, Radiance CR, a complex including Stay-C 50 (INCI:  Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate) and biotin, is included to help smooth wrinkles.
