Antiaging, Rosacea Benefits of Date Palm

At In-Cosmetics in Paris, IBR Ltd. will debut a palm date extract designed to fight aging and provide relief for rosacea. IBR-CalmDeAge (INCI: Glycerin (and) Water (aqua) (and) Phoenix Dactylifera (Date) Seed Extract) is a water soluble plant extract from date palm seed.

According to the company, date palms grow in a calm, soothing and restful oasis environment. The company decided to investigate the antiaging benefits of date palm after reading "Life from 2,000-year-old seed in Israel," a New York Times article on the Methuselah seed written by Steven Erlanger.

The active is said to affect both intrinsic and extrinsic aging. It affects intrinsic aging by slowing cell proliferation and affects extrinsic aging by providing antioxidant protection to slow environmental aging factors. In addition, the active reportedly reduces the total surface of rosacea.

The company applied the active twice daily for 28 days to report an in vivo reduction in wrinkle length. It also applied the active twice daily for 28 days on challenged, sensitive skin to report a reduction in the surface area of rosacea.
