Sulfonated fatty acids, esters or salts thereof, and betaines or sultaines for foaming, thickening
US Patent Application 20120208898
Publication date: Aug. 16, 2012
Inventors: XM Dong, B Sajic and LL Whitlock

Described in this patent are personal care compositions and concentrates containing salts of sulfonated fatty acid esters and/or salts of sulfonated fatty acids, and an alkyl betaine or sultaine. Compositions include liquid hand soaps, bath and shower washes, shampoos, 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 shampoos, antidandruff shampoos and facial cleaners, among others. According to the inventors, these surfactant thickeners can be effectively used in combination with electrolytes to increase the viscosity of cleansing compositions. They further improve foaming, cleansing and the perceptual skin feel properties of cleansing products.

Salicylic acid and hydrolyzed milk protein for anti-acne
US Patent Application 20120207812
Publication date: Aug. 16, 2012
Assignee: Reckitt and Colman (Overseas) Ltd.

This invention discloses a skin care composition to treat acne comprising salicylic acid or a salt thereof and hydrolyzed milk protein. According to the patent, salicylic acid is known for its efficacy against acne. It is a topical keratolytic agent that works by dissolving the intercellular cement that holds epithelial cells together. In order to improve the efficacy of topical acne treatments, it is desired to formulate salicylic acid with oil control agents such as sebum regulators, which regulate the number of active glands or oil-absorbing agents that remove excess oil from the skin. However, the ingredients necessary to suspend the oil control agents are less stable at the acidic pH of the salicylic acid compositions, and satisfactory suspensions may not be formed. Surprisingly, it has been found that skin care compositions comprising salicylic acid and hydrolyzed milk protein have improved therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of acne by establishing a normal hydro-lipid film on the skin.

Liquid, gel, fabric and sonic treatments to enhance oxygenation, reduce bacteria and improve wound healing
US Patent Application 20120207700
Publication date: Aug. 16, 2012
Inventors: N Koller, G Rodeheaver and R Cassino

This patent relates generally to the use of formulations comprising a surface active polymer to enhance oxygenation in skin and other soft tissue, to reduce bacterial count, and to improve wound healing. Also disclosed are formulations. In some embodiments, the compositions are liquids or gels while in others, fabric materials and sonic treatment are described.

Soy, wheat-derived polyamine-containing extracts for stress-reducing cosmetics
European Patent Application EP2486920
Publication date: Aug. 15, 2012
Assignee: Toyo Boseki Kabushiki Kaisha

The present invention aims to prevent or suppress stress at a cellular level by a composition containing a plant-derived polyamine-containing extract having stress-reducing, anti-stress, stress-suppressing, stress-preventing, stress-inhibiting and stress protective actions, or the like. Said composition may provide cosmetics, quasi drugs, medical supplies, sanitary goods, pharmaceuticals, foods or drinks such benefits. Specific cosmetics and quasi drugs include skin and facial cleansing agents, shampoo, makeup odor-suppressing agents/deodorants; sanitary goods and many others. The extract is derived from at least one material selected from: soybean seed, germ, embryo or bud; wheat seed, germ, embryo or bud; soy milk and soybean curd refuse.

Cosmetic use of polysaccharide compounds containing non-polymer siloxane graft(s)
US Patent 8242097
Publication date: Aug. 14, 2012
Assignee: L'Oreal SA

This disclosure relates to the cosmetic use of grafted polysaccharide compounds comprising at least one non-polymer siloxane graft, which may be obtained by reacting a polysaccharide and a siloxane compound, for the cosmetic treatment of keratin materials. One use of the described technology is in cosmetics, especially for the treatment of keratin materials such as caring for and protecting the hair; hair styling; permanent waving; relaxing, dyeing or bleaching the hair; or alternatively, cleansing and care of the skin.

Bisabolol and ginger for anti-irritant effects
US Patent 8241681
Publication date: Aug. 14, 2012
Assignee: Symrise AG

Described herein is a formulation with skin irritation-reducing action, comprising bisabolol and a composition or compound chosen from: a) substance mixtures obtainable from an extraction of ginger; b) substance mixtures obtainable from a separation of a ginger extract which comprise a compound chosen from: gingerols, shogaols, gingerdiols, dehydrogingerdiones, paradols and derivatives thereof; and c) compounds obtainable from a separation of a ginger extract chosen from: gingerols, shogaols, gingerdiols, dehydrogingerdiones, paradols and derivatives and mixtures thereof, wherein the particular content of bisabolol and of the said composition or compound in the formulation is adjusted such that the skin irritation-reducing action of these contents is increased synergistically.

Makeup removal kit for long-wearing products
US Patent 8241617
Publication date: Aug. 14, 2012
Assignee: L'Oréal

According to this patent, many long-wearing and transfer resistant cosmetics form a film after application; these cosmetics generally contain volatile solvents that evaporate on contact with the skin or other keratinous tissue, leaving behind a film or layer comprising waxes and/or resins, pigments, fillers and actives. Removal of such transfer resistant compositions has been problematic. Typically, solvent-based, i.e., mineral oil, or volatile oils have been used. However, this typically leads to a harsh, somewhat abrasive removal process. Thus, there remains a need for improved methods for removing long-wearing cosmetic compositions.

The present invention relates to methods for removing long wearing or transfer-resistant make-up compositions from keratin materials such as eyelashes, nails, skin or lips. The make-up composition comprises at least one oil-soluble film-forming agent and at least one coloring agent in a kit. Such kits can include additional compositions such as, for example, topcoats for application to the makeup or primers (basecoats). The invention also relates to methods for applying gloss to keratin materials via a gloss composition comprising at least one oil-soluble film-forming agent, at least one oil and at least one coloring agent.

Self-heating, surfactant-containing cleansing gel

Described herein are self-heating cosmetic cleansing gels comprising: a) surfactants and b) more than 50% w/w of water-miscible hydroxyl compounds selected from glycols, glycol ethers and polyols, having in each case 2-6 C atoms; polyalkylene glycols having average molecular weights of up to 1,000 g/mol; and mixtures thereof. These hydroxyl compounds are liquid at 25°C, with the proviso that the substances evolve heat when dissolved in water. In addition, said gels contain c) at least 6% w/w of high molecular mass PEG or a mixture of two or more PEGs having different molar masses.
