L'Oréal USA Awards Women in Science

L'Oréal USA's Fellowships for Women n Science awarded five fellowships to researchers across a range of disciplines. Shirley Ann Jackson, president of Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute, received the Role Model Award for her efforts in raising awareness of the role of women in science.

Additionally, the fellows, receiving US$40,000 each included: Sara Aton, PhD, a neuroscientist at the University of Pennsylvania; Ania Blesaynski-Jayich, PhD, a physicist at Yale University; Laura Lapham, PhD, a chemical oceanographer from Florida State University; Sridevi Vedula Sarma, PhD, a computational neuroscientist from Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Sandra Ugrina, an aerospace engineer form the  University of Maryland.

The L'Oréal USA Fellowships for Women in Science program began in 2003 as part of the UNESCO-L'Oréal International Fellowships program, where the awards launched in 1998.
