Shiseido Awards Women in Scientific Research

Shiseido has selected 10 grant recipients for the 6th Shiseido Female Researcher Science Grant, which is aimed at fostering the development of female researchers taking a leading role in the fields of natural sciences. The announcement was made in conjunction with International Women's Day on March 8, 2013.

Shiseido created the grant in 2007 for three reasons: to promote scientific and technological creativity in light of scarce Japanese natural resources; to encourage more students pursuing science to study in Japan; and to encourage more women to pursue careers in science and technology.

Those awarded the 2013 grant include; Maho Amano, PhD, an assistant professor at Hokkaido University's Graduate School of Advanced Life Science; Shizue Ohsawa, PhD, a research fellow at Kyoto University's Laboratory of Genetics in their Graduate School of Biostudies; Atsuko Sato, PhD, a project researcher at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Science; Rika Umemiya-Shirafuji, PhD, an assistant professor at Obihiro University of Agriculture and Medicine's National Research Center for Protozoan Diseases; Yuki Shirosaki, PhD, an assistant professor at Kyushu Institute of Technology's Frontier Research Academy for Young Researchers; Yumiko Suzuki, PhD, an associate professor at Sophia University's Faculty of Science and Technology; Yoko Tatewaki, PhD, an assistant professor at Yamagata University's Graduate School of Science and Engineering;Tamako Nishimura, PhD, an assistant professor at Kobe University's Organization of Advanced Science and Technology; Huixin Liu, PhD, an associate professor of Kyushu University's Earth and Planetary Science Division, Faculty of Science; and Chie Hosokawa, PhD, a researcher at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology's Health Research Institute.

Recipients will each receive a grant of  ¥1 million from Shiseido. Additionally, the grant presentation ceremony is scheduled for June 2013 at the Shiseido Research Center in Shin-Yokohama.
