Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients (PCHi)

The Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients (PCHi) trade show closed its doors with “brand new record-breaking figures that reinforced the event’s relevance and prominence in China and on the world’s center stage,” according to organizer Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions. A total of 278 exhibitors, 5,527 visitors and 1,260 conference delegates congregated at the World Expo Theme Pavilion in Shanghai, February 27–29, and, for the first time in PCHi history, the PCHi 2013 floor area made available for booking on site was nearly sold out by the end of the 2012 event.

Just over 87% of visitors came from within China, and the remaining traveled from 33 countries. The top 10 territories outside of mainland China that were represented were Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and The Philippines.

“The show has been growing since its inception in 2008,” said Daniel Chan, project director, PCHi. “The burgeoning year-on-year attendance and international participation signal that PCHi is increasing in importance to personal care companies worldwide, with China fast becoming one of the key markets for the industry. We introduced a number of new initiatives at PCHi 2012, including contemporary conference topics, the PCHi Product Zone and Media Networking Session, all of which helped raise the profile of exhibitors and visitors, as well as enhance the knowledge of attendees.”

For the second time, Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions and Ringier Trade Media collaborated to recognize outstanding personal care ingredient products that have been released in China between 2010 and 2011 in the China Personal Care & Cosmetics Innovation Awards. The ceremony, held on the first day of PCHi, honored 20 ingredients from 17 companies, many of which were PCHi exhibitors—including Exsymol, Lonza, Merck, Clariant, Evonik, Beijing Brilliance Biochemical Co. Ltd, DSM, Wuhan Tallyho Biological Production Co. Ltd, Symrise, Sethic, Givaudan, Mibelle Biochemistry, Guangzhou Honsea Sunshine Bioscience & Technology Co. Ltd, Wacker, Guangzhou Tinci Materials Technology Co. Ltd, Rhodia and Dow Personal Care.

According to the organizers, in line with the strategy of alternating between the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta (regions that house large clusters of personal care and cosmetic manufacturers), PCHi 2013 will be held at the Guangzhou Poly World Trade Center March 13–15, and organizers expect that the event will be given a boost with its first co-location alongside China Lab Expo, another branded event organized by Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions, to house innovative laboratory equipment and technologies within a single show venue.
