Protecting Hair with Collagen

Waitiki Biosciences utilizes collagen and chondroitin in a moisturizing complex designed for hair care products. Collamex (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Hydrolyzed Collagen) is said to deliver moisture deep into the hair cuticle as a result of its low molecular weight chondroitin sulphate, small peptides and amino acids. According to the company, the larger collagen molecules create a film that locks in moisture to protect the hair from damage caused by harsh styling and coloring treatments.

The company used the complex in hair conditioners, tested it both on chemically treated and virgin hair and reports the product: improved the elasticity of hair; improved the moisture retention of hair; created more manageable hair; improved the appearance of both damaged and undamaged hair; improved the tensile strength of hair; and reduced chemical damage when applied to hair before color treatment.
