A moldable cleansing sand and 'scrambled egg' anti-aging emulsion were two novel product formats demonstrated by Grant Mitchell, research and technology manager at Croda.

Cosmetics & Toiletries went behind the scenes at Croda labs to experience these novel and playful products thanks in part to the company's global formulation network of innovators.

Mitchell explained the "Shape n' Play" cleansing sand contains the company's ViscOptima SE (INCI: Sodium Polyacrylate (and) Ethylhexyl Cocoate (and) PPG-3 Benzyl Ether Myristate (and) Polysorbate 20), a multifunctional anionic rheology modifier that ensures stability and allows for shaping and molding. In addition, the formula includes the NatraGem S140 solubilizer (INCI: Polyglyceryl-4 Laurate/Sebacate (and) Polyglyceryl-6 Caprylate/Caprate (and) Water (aqua). With the addition of water, the resulting exfoliating formula transforms to a skin cleansing lotion.

Also, the "Egg on Your Face" product concept takes emulsification from the lab to the user in an playful egg in a skillet presentation. Here, the user scrambles the aqueous "egg white" phase of hydrating ingredients thickened with Volarest FL (INCI: Acrylates/Beheneth-25 Methacrylate Copolymer), with the anti-aging "yolk" containing the RevitElix (INCI: Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil) active. Together, they create a moisturizing, effective anti-aging skin cream.
