Gattefossé has launched its first hair care ingredient. Definicire (INCI: Jojoba Esters (and) Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Wax (and) Polyglycerin-3) is a natural texturizer meant to provide control to unruly hair in climatic conditions.

Definicire is derived from jojoba and sunflower seed waxes, and is reportedly close to sebum in chemical structure. The smoothing ingredient is designed to act as a biodegradable alternative to silicones and quaternary compounds.

By mimicking the hair’s protective lipid layer, formulations including Definicire are said to:

  • Increase hair’s hydrophobicity;
  • Protect from pollution;
  • Inhibit static electricity;
  • Enhance smoothness; and
  • Provide frizz and volume control in high humidity.

The ingredient is recommended at 2% in applications such as rinse-off conditioners and masks; pre-style treatments; after-style products, including protective hair sprays or anti-frizz creams; and men’s lines, including styling gums, waxes and products for beards.

Definicire launched at in-cosmetics Latin America, held Sept. 19-20, 2018.
