Advanced Cosmetic Technologies has introduced what it deems to be the the first and only para-phenylenediamaine (PPD)-free, 100% plant-based permanent hair color. The company's dyes are said to contain no PPD, resorcinol or ammonia, and they act via the company's Renewable Botanical Enviro-Colors (RBE)-Colors technology.
The company's patent-pending RBE-Colors technology is made up of small molecule, purified plant-based dyes that penetrate the hair naturally and gently without requiring the hair shaft to be forced open. Traditional, non-plant based hair dyes require the use of ammonia to force open the hair shaft to accept the large PPD molecules, which can lead to hair damage. Here, special extraction techniques are used to physically separate the colors from the plant matter and mix them with natural mineral salts to make the permanent hair color.
