The authors describe a model to visualize the appearance of cyclobutane-pyrimidine dimers in the nuclei of normal human keratinocytes after UV irradiation. These dimers are one of the principal agents in DNA damage. The model can be used to assess the effect of a cosmetic ingredient on the formation of direct UV-induced lesions to DNA.
