The market research company found that 57 percent of U.S. consumers are looking for foods that have specific health claims while nearly half are looking to purchase vitamins, minerals, herbals and dietary supplements that have a specific health claim.
Functional foods and condition-specific supplements are also showing groth, with 5-year compound annual growth rates of 17 percent and 16 percent respectively. The company noted that gluten-free foods have show a 50 percent compound annual growth over the past 6 years and generate nearly US$400 million a year.
