Described in this patent is a cosmetic or dermatological system involving a handheld packaging/dispenser device with an internal clock or clock data receiver, and one or more compositions to be delivered in a fluid form onto skin, mucous membranes or keratinous fibers. The system is built to enable the modification of at least one property of the preparation being dispensed, which is controlled by the user and prompted by the internal clock and/or the clock data receiver.

An example preparation in which the active agent may depend on time, i.e., time of day or day of the week and/or month, is sunscreen. Under such the described circumstances, the dispensed preparation may be richer in sun filters earlier in the day or during sunnier seasons. The dispensed preparation may also be richer in sun filters when the day of the week is likely to involve time spent outside, e.g., holidays or weekends.

Disclosed herein is a body wash including sunscreen or UV filters formulated so that it may be applied during normal hygiene activities, such as washing. The composition applies an effective level of sunscreen to the body such that it continues to provide effective solar protection even after rinsing. Further, according to the inventors, the material is a non-greasy and easy to apply. Specifically, effective amounts of octyl methoxycinnamate, octyl salicylate and titanium dioxide are described. Testing shows that the product provides an SPF of at least 14 even after multiple rinsings; in some cases, up to SPF 17.

bis(Biphenyl)triazine derivatives as UV absorbers

Surprisingly, these inventors have found that mixtures of specific bis(biphenyl)triazines show appreciable solubility properties in cosmetic oils; as a consequence, they significantly increase the UVA and UVB protection factor of cosmetic or dermatological compositions. Therefore, the present invention relates to the use of mixtures comprising at least two structurally different bis(biphenyl)triazine derivatives. These compounds are said to exhibit superior UVB and UVA-absorbing properties combined with high photopermanence, which makes them ideal candidates for sunscreens. The bisbiphenyltriazines in this reference are milled with a dispersant and used as micronized particles in the water phase.

This patent describes a method of using wood extracts as natural compounds in cosmetic and hygiene products. In particular, natural compounds from plant materials are disclosed, including at least one: dihydroquercetin (taxifolin) antioxidant, arabinogalactan polysaccharide, arabinogalactan combined with dihydroquercetin (taxifolin), and wood oleoresin comprising oil and resin. All these natural compounds are extracted from wood and\or are by-products of the logging industry. According to the inventors, arabinogalactan has been shown to improve the dispersion of inorganic sunscreen particles such as titanium dioxide, leading to a more uniform and effective transference onto skin. This also leads to less clumping of the sunscreen particles, and therefore more efficient packing of the sun protection per UV level.

The present inventors have discovered certain silicone paste compositions that are able to make organic fluids and actives with aqueous or hydrophilic based substances, such as sunscreens, compatible. The silicone pastes are obtained from a silicone organic elastomer gel containing polyoxyalkylene cross-linked silicone elastomers also having pendant polyoxyalkylene groups. The selection and amount of polyoxyalkene groups incorporated into the silicone elastomer are such as to provide the silicone elastomer with 2% to 25% w/w ethylene oxide groups. These compositions are said to have rheological properties with desirable aesthetics in skin care formulations.

This invention is directed to biosurfactants that can self-assemble or auto-aggregate into polymeric micellar structures and their use in topically-applied dermatologic products. The invention relates in particular to polymeric acylated biosurfactants (PABs) conforming to the formula Acyl-AA-Term, where: Acyl is an 8- to 22-membered carbon chain, branched or unbranched, saturated or unsaturated; AA is a consecutive sequence of four to nine amino acid residues, where at least one, preferably at least two of the amino acid residues is charged; and Term is an acid C-terminus or an amide C-terminus.

PABs of the present invention reportedly have low critical micelle concentrations (predominantly less than about 100 ppm) in an aqueous environment of Minimal Essential Media (MEM) and can lower the surface tension in the aqueous MEM environment to less about 50 dynes/cm2. They also have the ability to increase metabolic soluble proteins. A topically-applied cosmetic or dermatologic composition further comprises one or more cosmetic or pharmaceutical ingredients selected from: antioxidants, film-formers and other polymeric materials that increase the substantivity of topical compositions to the skin, humectants, skin soothing and/or healing agents, sunscreen actives, etc.
