Moisturizing antimicrobial composition
US Patent 8388991
Publication date: March 05, 2013
Assignee: Chattem Inc.

Disclosed in this patent is a moisturizing antimicrobial composition including benzethonium chloride or benzalkonium chloride, a non-benzyl cationic surfactant, and an aqueous carrier. The composition provides a significant and unexpected reduction of irritation, inflammation, dryness and/or redness, all issues associated with known alcohol-based skin disinfectants. In particular, the present invention provides a stable, aesthetically-pleasing, long-lasting and moisturizing composition that is substantially free of ethanol, polysorbates and anionic compounds known to inhibit the activity of benzethonium chloride or benzalkonium chloride.

Antimicrobial hand towel with time-delay chromatic transfer indicator and absorbency rate delay
US Patent 8388992
Publication date: March 5, 2013
Assignee: Georgia-Pacific Consumer Products LP

Provided here is a disposable paper towel with an antimicrobial lotion and a chromatic transfer indicator that undergoes a delayed, visually perceiveable color change at a predetermined time after the towel is wetted. The lotion on the towel is said to increase water absorbency times to further promote lotion transfer to the skin and increase lotion transfer effectiveness. The lotioned towels are especially suitable for health care and food service workers.

Easily dispersible lipidic phase
US Patent 8388985
Publication date: March 5, 2013
Assignee: Nestec S.A.

The present invention relates to the use of a lipidic phase comprising an oil and a lipophilic additive (LPA) that is suitable to make an oil-in-water emulsion by application of low energy or a manual operation. The lipidic phase contains an LPA, which forms self-assembly structures inside the emulsion oil droplets. The aqueous phase contains a hydrophilic emulsifier, and the lipidic and aqueous phases are mixed without using classical high shearing devices or homogenizers.

Moisturizing cosmetic composition comprising a combination of homarine and erythritol
US Patent 8388939
Publication date: March 5, 2013
Assignee: Sederma, S.A.S.

Disclosed in this patent is a cosmetic or dermopharmaceutic composition comprising a combination of homarine and erythritol as well as a non-therapeutic treatment method to improve cutaneous hydration, prevent and/or treat cutaneous dryness signs, restore and/or protect the cutaneous barrier function, and protect cells of the skin and/or  scalp from osmotic shocks, for example, from UV radiation.

Marine botanicals to provide nutrition to aging, environmentally damaged skin
US Patent 8388978
Publication date: March 5, 2013
Assignee: Mary Kay Inc.

Described herein is a topical skin care composition and method for its use comprising water, Chlorella vulgaris extract, an algae extract, a phospholipid or lecithin, glycerin, retinyl palmitate, tocopheryl acetate, and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate. Hydroxylated amide skin moisturizer
US Patent Application 20130053342
Publication date: Feb. 28, 2013
Assignee: L'Oreal

This present invention relates to the use of specific amides in skin care, particularly for moisturization. These compositions may be employed for non-therapeutic skin care and/or for making up the skin. The cosmetic compositions are preferably formulated under non-alkaline conditions, even more preferably at a pH close to that of the skin, for example at a pH of between 5 and 6. The compounds may be present most preferably from 0.1% to 10% w.w.

Polypeptide expressed in the stratum corneum and use thereof
US Patent Application 20130053327
Publication date: Feb. 28, 2013
Assignee: Chanel Parfums Beaute, Centre National De La Recherche Scientifique (C.N.R.S.) and Universite Paul Sabatier Toulouse III

In this patent, a novel polypeptide isolated from the cornified envelope, polypeptides similar to the latter, or fragments of the polypeptide as well as a cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical composition containing same are described. The main cosmetic and/or therapeutic use of the polypeptide is to reinforce the barrier function of the epidermis and prevent and/or treat the signs of skin dryness or prevent and/or treat disorders of the barrier function or the fragilization of the epidermis. Finally, the isolated encoding polynucleotide for the polypeptide also is disclosed.

Cosmetic and dermatological formulations of MNTF peptides
US Patent Application 20130052245
Publication date: Feb. 28, 2013
Assignee: Dermacare Neuroscience Institute

This disclosure is directed to methods and compositions that include motoneuronotrophic factor (MNTF) peptides and their analogs for cosmetic and dermatological purposes. The invention stems from the unexpected discovery that MNTF peptides and analogs, when administered to skin, inhibit and reduce photodamage, oxidative damage, wrinkling and other symptoms of skin aging and related conditions. The peptides can be used to enhance the appearance of skin, such as by improving skin tone, reducing scarring, reducing or inhibiting keloid formation and promoting skin regeneration.
