Disclosed in this patent is a moisturizing antimicrobial composition including benzethonium chloride or benzalkonium chloride, a non-benzyl cationic surfactant, and an aqueous carrier. The composition provides a significant and unexpected reduction of irritation, inflammation, dryness and/or redness, all issues associated with known alcohol-based skin disinfectants. In particular, the present invention provides a stable, aesthetically-pleasing, long-lasting and moisturizing composition that is substantially free of ethanol, polysorbates and anionic compounds known to inhibit the activity of benzethonium chloride or benzalkonium chloride.

Provided here is a disposable paper towel with an antimicrobial lotion and a chromatic transfer indicator that undergoes a delayed, visually perceiveable color change at a predetermined time after the towel is wetted. The lotion on the towel is said to increase water absorbency times to further promote lotion transfer to the skin and increase lotion transfer effectiveness. The lotioned towels are especially suitable for health care and food service workers.
